The Forest Year: A Conversation with Author Ethan Tapper
November 8, 2026 · 6:00 PM · Gring’s Mill Recreation Area, 2083 Tulpehocken Road, Reading · Registration required; seating is limited

About the event
Vermont forester and writer Ethan Tapper comes to Gring's Mill to talk about his new book, The Forest Year: Finding Hope in a World Worth Saving. Tapper has worked as a professional forester since 2012, and much of his writing centers on Bear Island, the Vermont woodland he has spent years tending and bringing back to health.
The book follows a single year in that forest, moving through the seasons by way of birds, wildflowers, trees and the small changes that mark the turning of the calendar. It also reaches into bigger questions about community, resilience and what it means to care for a place over the long term. The evening includes readings from the book along with open conversation about our changing environment, and copies will be available if you would like one of your own.
The program takes place in the barn at Gring's Mill Recreation Area on Tulpehocken Road. Seating is limited and registration is required, so plan ahead if you would like to attend.
