The Reading Royals host the Trenton Ironhawks at Santander Arena, and this one carries a little extra curiosity for Berks County hockey fans. The Ironhawks are new to the ECHL, arriving in Trenton, New Jersey after the Utah Grizzlies franchise relocated east, and they skate at CURE Insurance Arena as an affiliate of the New York Islanders. Their name nods to the city's iron industry and industrial past, so expect a club still introducing itself to the league as it visits Reading.
This game is a Wild Wednesday, the Royals' midweek promotional night built around getting more people in the building on a school and work night. Orange Zone seating is offered at a reduced rate, and college students can take advantage of a buy one, get one offer with a valid college ID or .edu email, which makes it an easy pick for students at Alvernia, Kutztown, Penn State Berks and other nearby campuses.
Puck drops at 7:00 PM, with the usual Royals game night atmosphere of loud goal horns, between-period contests and Slapshot working the crowd. It is a straightforward, fast-moving night out in downtown Reading that works just as well for longtime season members as for anyone catching pro hockey for the first time.
